Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cutural

Welcome to our SMSC page! SMSC stands for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development; an integral part of our Arches' curriculum. SMSC promotes values associated with SMSC development and how this contributes to a child's mental and physical development. SMSC learning prepares children for opportunities and responsibilities they may experience in later life and how to better handle these. SMSC events are covered during weekly assemblies and through a course of organised days and events within schools - some excellent wokrshops have been had!

We aim for our children to become confident and caring individuals. Our SMSC programme of events includes teaching about values and character development, anti-bullying, keeping ourselves healthy, worldwide festivities, looking after our environment and much more!  We expect all our children to become good citizens and actively look for ways of supporting others, e.g. through charitable activities and fundraising.

Spiritual

Spiritual development includes the exploration of beliefs and experiences, faiths, feelings and values and develops and enjoyment of learning about the surrounding world using our creativity and imagination.

Moral

Moral development includes the exploration of what is right and wrong in society, the laws that exist and the consequences of breaking these, moral and ethical issues and the views that children may have on such matters.

Social

Social development includes the exploration of social skills and participation within the community, volunteering and cooperating, resolving conflict and engaging with British Values.

Cultural

Cultural development includes the exploration of cultural influences and the role of Britain's parliamentary system, cultural opportunities and respecting, accepting and celebrating diversity within the community.
