Our Curriculum

Our curriculum encompasses the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. However, this is only one element of the wider school curriculum. Our curriculum is ever evolving to positively meet the needs of our children and progressing to suit these.

Following the school closure period for many, The Arches will be tailoring its curriculum to meet the needs of its children to ensure learning missed is thoroughly recapped, rapidly progressing children to where they need to be. In line with Department for Education guidance, a focus will be placed on looking at previous learning carried out, identifying any potential gaps in an effort to address these and consolidate basic skills, providing children with the knowledge needed to progress further.

An effective curriculum attains the right balance between what a school must teach and the aims and values identified as specific to your school community and the needs of our children. At The Arches, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that is diverse in content and intricately taiolred to meet the needs of the children within our school context. Our curriculum is exciting and progressive and is ever developing. Statements of intent, implementation and impact can be found on subject pages.

To support staff with high quality delivery and development of the school's developing curriculum, supporting educational organisations meet on a regular basis with Subject Leaders and teaching practitioners, moderating internally, planning and much more.

Such organisations include examples such as the ones outlined below.

  • First 4 Maths
  • Literacy Counts
  • Phonics Counts
  • Phonics Hub
  • High Impact

In addition to this, all Subject Leaders and teaching practitioners also attend regular moderation and support meetings within the local BEV (Blacon Educational Village) cluster. An outline of BEV teaching and learning events are outlined within the document below.

For subject specific curriculum overviews, please refer to individual subject pages under the curriculum tab to find these documents with reference to individual areas of our curriculum.
